On This Date …

On this date – in 1932 (!) – Helen Morgan appeared on television.

The program, broadcast over X2XAB by CBS, was Broadway on Parade and it was, in essence, a campaign ad for the Democratic Party ahead of the historic 1932 general election.

In another first, it was, essentially, the first television program to be reviewed by Variety. The Show Business Bible were unimpressed by Morgan, at least on a technical level.

The Billboard, on the other hand, was more enthusiastic.

While this was Morgan’s most notable TV appearance, it was neither her first nor her last.
